“Seals, Stigma and Survival” principal investigator Dr. Danita Catherine Burke was interviewed by Oscar Noach of the Center for War Studies, University of Southern Denmark and together they discussed her project “Seals, Stigma and Survival: Finding Solutions to the EU Stigmatization of Seal Hunting” and her new book out now with Routledge Greenpeace in the Circumpolar North: Lessons Learned from the Anti-Sealing Era.
The podcast also includes discussion about a new publication by Danita Burke and Erik Kielsen from preliminary research into what appears to be a lack of Greenlandic/Kalaallit Nunaat public engagement in the 2024 EU public consultations into the fitness of its trade in seal products regulations. The discussion paper calls on the EU to do more to engage the Greenlandic/Kalaallit public on any considerations for changes to its sealing regulations, including taking advantage of its delayed final report on the consultations to react out and engage key rightsholders and stakeholders in Greenland for their input, including raising awareness amongst the public to create space for their input as well.
